By Dr Obnxs | Dec 6, 2009 - The Nissan Leaf is an all electric car for the masses. On paper, the car seems to be a much more realistic proposition than cars like the Tesla or the Fisker. It’s a small 5 seat car, with a range of 100 miles and a target price somewhere a bit above $25k. For many, this is a price point that is manageable, even in these tough times.
It's that time of the year again. This is a reminder to get your media credential requests in for the Historics Weekend. Here is the contact information for three of the events.
On April 3rd 2007, just over three years ago, the 1,000,000th MINI rolled off the assembly line. A premium-priced small car built in Oxford, England. MINI took the United States by storm and today has the highest resale values of any vehicle line sold in America...
Pre-orders will be taken in Q2 of 2010 and first shipments will be in December 2010. CODA is first aiming for customers in California labeled as “informed progressives.” This means environmental-oriented and affluent professionals: doctors, engineers, lawyers, and professors. A small set of company-controlled dealers will be set up, with no local inventory for sale. Dealers will have a few demo units. However, customers will have their CODA EVs built to order, waiting up to 8 weeks for delivery. Before delivery...
Reeves Callaway - Motivated By Excellence By Matt Richter www.drobnxs.com The Western Automotive Journalists hosted Reeves Callaway for their October meeting and I must say that it was an interesting evening. I mostly know Callaway from the Sledgehammer and Twin Turbo Corvettes of the 90s, but it turns out that there is lots more to the Callaway story. Oddly enough, he started by getting a degree in Fine Arts from a liberal arts college back east. But he was a car nut at heart, and convinced the department to let him make some cars as art objects.
    WAJ 2009 Media Days Schedule
On November 28 in San Francisco, WAJ members were invited to attend this exclusive Nissan dealer unveiling of its long-awaited supercar, the GT-R. In addition, we were the first group of journalists anywhere to see the new Nissan FORUM concept minivan, which offers an array of "innovative family communications systems" such as one-button audio muting...
Congratulations and thank you to the Western Automotive Journalists, treasurer Ron Posey, secretary Jon Rosner, my right-hand guy Monty Wolf, Marsha Hall-Jenkins of General Motors and especially vice president of speaker acquisition Martin Swig, for successfully staging an evening with the head of General Motors and the WAJ membership and distinguished guests. Bob Lutz’s appearance at this WAJ event has established a high water mark for future guest speakers...
The second annual Western Automotive Journalists’ "Fall Classic: Future Fuels and Propulsion Systems" program will take place Wednesday, October 15 at the Basque Cultural Center, 599 Railroad Avenue, South San Francisco, CA 94080. The production plug-in Chevy Volt has been revealed...
On behalf of myself and the WAJ board of directors: thank you to all the manufacturer, aftermarket participants and WAJ members for making the 16th annual WAJ Media Days, in my opinion, the best event we have ever produced! Tuesday’s second annual Show-n-Shine shone through despite a couple of very brief sprinkles...
The accolades continue to roll in for the 15th annual Western Automotive Journalists Media Day, called the best ever by WAJ members. Sixty members and their guests enjoyed vehicles on road, track, and trail. Once again, great thanks go to event co-chairs Ron Harrison and Marc Rauch for their enormous efforts. Praise is due to Page One Automotive and Specialty Transport for getting the vehicles to us and to ringleader Stuart Langager for managing the massive car and truck fleet. Manufacturers from England, Germany, Japan, Korea, Sweden, and the U.S. brought 112 vehicles for our evaluation and an additional 20 display vehicles.
While the rest of the Car Industry has started to recover in 2010, Toyota's sales have been flat as a board. Toyota has been hit left, right and center over the last few months. First with unintended acceleration accusations pointed at the top-selling Prius, then at other cars in the line-up Toyota line-up. There are claims of an illegal cover-up.
